January 25, 2012 Battle the Winter Doldrums at Dunwoody Springs
Happy Tuesday!
This time of year can be difficult with grey skies, short days, and no major vacations until April. Fortunately, I am here to remind you of some of the exciting upcoming events at Dunwoody Springs. Most of these events are already chronicled in the DSES PTA Newsletter “The Wave.”
Auditions for the first Dunwoody Springs Elementary Talent Show will be held this Thursday, January 26. If your child completed an application, s/he should already have a time slot for the audition. The Talent Show itself will be held on Friday, February 24, from 6:30 – 8:30pm. Come out and enjoy our talented student body!
This Friday, January 27, is Career Day. Please contact your children’s teachers if you would like to come and speak to their classes. Maybe our children will finally understand that we do more every day than play with Facebook on our computers.
And who can forget Valentine’s Day, February 14. Please join you students for lunch that day and have your picture taken by our favorite photographer, Tony. At $5.00 a picture, you will create a wonderful memory for your family. While you are at school, please be sure to vote in the PTA’s Nominating Committee Elections.
(On a side note, packages of Valentine’s Day cards are on sale at the local dollar store. My kids already have their Phineas and Ferb cards and, for another dollar, they may have candy to hand out with it.)
Finally, the challenge of the week: organization. My kids (like their mom) struggle with organization. Papers sit in their backpack for weeks before I find them. They don’t write homework assignments in their agendas and forget to give me papers that need to be signed and returned to their teachers. What do you do to help keep your child’s schoolwork organized? Post your answer by January 31, and you will be eligible for a drawing to receive a $10.00 Starbucks Gift Card provided by yours truly, the Dolphin Diva.
On behalf of the PTA, have a great week!

My third grader Dameon and I keep tabs on his school day by writing each other special little notes in the front notes section of his agenda. It may just be a little note of encouragement or maybe a question to think about that goes along with what he is learning or he may write me to let me know that he would like to learn more about a certain topic or how he is feeling about upcoming tests or events. Hope our idea helps!!
