Don’t miss the opportunity to order spiritwear. Orders are due by this Friday, August 29th. If you didn’t have a chance to preview the new look at Dolphin Dive, take a look at this cute picture showcasing our very popular tie-dye style shirt. It was so popular, we sold out of our initial order, but are planning to order more, so please don’t miss your chance to own this great and very sought after look.
Hooded sweatshirts and zipper hoodies are available as well; please download and review the 2014 Dunwoody Springs Order Form. Please return it to school with your payment by Friday, August 29th.
Remember every Friday, students can sport their spiritwear to school. We can’t wait to see all of their smiling faces in these new styles.

Happy Groundhog Day!
First, thank you to everyone who participated in the Career Day last Friday. I went to two classes about being an attorney and a small business owner, and the kids were very excited and interested. Admittedly, they were a little disappointed to learn that they were going to have to use math and grammar as adults. I had a great time and look forward to coming back next year.
And now for the scoop on the DSES Talent Show. Apparently, the judges were blown away by the talent on that stage. Make sure you have marked your calendars for February 24, 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Doors open at 5 pm for dinner.
Are you the parent of a budding middle school child? If so, be sure to attend an Open House and School Tour with Dr. Kay Walker, Principal of Sandy Springs Charter Middle School, to learn what to expect over the next three years. The next sessions are February 16, 9:00 am; March 15, 9:00 am; and April 17, 6:30 pm. Check out the schools’ website at http://www.ssmsonline.org; it’s a wealth of information.
Apparently, the Dunwoody Springs Elementary Sweatshirt is a hot item this year. The PTA has heard your demands and will sell sweatshirts again during the Valentine’s Day Lunch on February 14. I am going to try to attach an order form to the blog. Please fill it out and send it in ASAP to reserve your sweatshirt!
Free Item of the Week. This “to do” is too good to be true. Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA has FREE admission (yes, FREE) until February 29. Normally, admission costs a minimum of $18.00 per adult and $9.00 per child. While all the flowers may not be in bloom, you can still visit the butterfly exhibit, view the floral exhibits in the horticultural center, or walk/hike/bike the many trails. I may not be able to predict the future, but I see my car heading toward Callaway very soon. For more information, visit www.callawaygardens.com.
Mark your calendars for February 12. If you are a yarn or fiber fiend like me, or if you have the desire to do something a little crafty, check out the weaving open house at the Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild. Instructors will be on hand to demonstrate a variety of weaving methods (floor-loom, rigid-heddle, inkle, tapestry, basketmaking, and card weaving), along with kumihimo braiding, spinning, crochet, and knitting. There will be activities for children, refreshments, door prizes, and raffles. For more information, check out http://chgweavers.wordpress.com.
Congratulations to the first official prize-winner of the Dolphin Blog, Sunshine Jones, mom to third grade student Dameon. With her input as to how she helps her child stay organized, she won a $10.00 Starbucks gift card, courtesy the Dolphin Diva herself. What, you’re a Starbucks fanatic and missed the contest?! Check back with the blog soon; I see a second contest in our future . . . . .
With that little cliff hanger, the PTA hopes you have a fabulous week!
Greetings Fellow Dolphins, and welcome to the Dunwoody Springs Elementary School 2011-2012 academic year! My name is Diane Weinberg, and I have been asked to help with this year’s blog. The PTA is busy preparing for this school year, so you should expect to receive a fair number of posts in the next several weeks.
1. Meet the Teacher Night, Thursday, August 11, 3:00 – 4:30pm (grades PreK, K, 1, & 2) and 4:00 – 6:00pm (Grades 3, 4 & 5)
I am very pleased to announce our first event of the year – Meet the Teacher Night. Please come to the school
– to meet your child’s or children’s new teacher,
– find your bus route,
– pick up a car pool number,
– register for after care,
– join school activities and the PTA,
– and buy spirit wear. (Go Dolphins!)
A copy of the flyer with this information is attached.
2. Save the Date: Dolphin Block Party. Sept. 24 from 12 – 4 pm.
Mark this date on your calendars. Details to follow.
3. School shopping. Have you checked your newspapers lately? The school sales have started, and they have been great. This afternoon, I saw folders on sale at Walmart for 15 cents, and spiral notebooks for 20 cents. Lists for school supplies can be found on the DSES website, http://www.fultonschools.org/school/dunwoodysprings.
This weekend, Old Navy has school uniform shirts on sale for $5.50 each. You better believe that I will be there tomorrow afternoon.
Shopping tip. In talking with teachers, I have discovered that they tend to run out of certain supplies at the end of each semester, especially photocopy paper. Consider purchasing an extra ream (package of paper) and donating it to the classroom.
Have a great weekend! In the meantime, if you have any questions or comments, or if you hear about an amazing school supply sale, feel free to leave a post to the blog or to e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
