PTA MEMBERSHIP
Thank you to all that have already renewed their PTA Membership for the 2015-2016 school year! The PTA has a lot of great plans for the upcoming school year by continuing to bring new and more technology into the classrooms, planning awesome school events for our students, and appreciating our teachers – just to name a few! SPIRIT WEAR
Don’t forget to order this years Spirit Wear! There are a variety of new styles you will want to wear proudly! We have cute rhinestone tees and cool dri-fit shirts. VOLUNTEERS!!! YES, YOU!!!
Room Parent (classroom help – in and out of the room) – Some teachers are still in search of a Room Parent. What a great way to be more involved in your students classroom and be that “fly on the wall” you all know you want to be! Events and Dates to Remember
There is a lot going on…Please take a moment to note the following dates and events on your calendar:
It’s time for another Papa John’s Spirit Night. This is a really easy way to help raise money for our school because a percentage of your order goes back to Dunwoody Springs PTA, even when you take advantage of a special offer.
When: THIS Wednesday, February 11th
What: 10% of any order placed at the Roswell Rd. Papa John’s on February 11th will go directly back to Dunwoody Springs.
Where: 8725 Roswell Rd. 678-461-4633. (This location only.)
**BOX TOPS DEADLINE IS Friday, Feb. 20**
Don’t forget to bring in your Box Tops for education. Have you asked your relatives and friends to collect them for you?

Bingo Night
You won’t want to miss Bingo night at Dunwoody Springs!
This is a family event — plan to accompany your children for this fun evening. Get together with fellow DSES families and friends. Children must be with an adult; no drop-offs.
Date: Friday, January 23rd
Time: 7 – 9 PM
Cost: $5 for 4 games (per player)
Food: pizza, chips and drinks will be for sale.

Raffle tickets will also be for sale – enter for a chance to win a 32″ TV!!!

BINGO NIGHT
SAVE THE DATE! Bingo Night will be January 23rd from 7-9 PM. There will be pizza, baked goods and drinks for sale. More exciting details to follow.
CAREER DAY
Be on the lookout for details on how you can help teach our students about your career. Students look forward to hearing about all of your jobs and exactly what you do. The date is January 30th, during school hours.
PAPA JOHN’S SPIRIT NIGHTS
These spirit nights will be every 2nd or 3rd Wednesday of every month. Exact dates and reminders to follow. Stay tuned.
PROSPECTIVE PARENT COFFEE
Tell your neighbors and friends in our district. Join us at the Spalding Lake clubhouse on February 8th. We will be spreading the word about all the great work we are doing at Dunwoody Springs. Anyone considering a move to our school should join us. The address is 3880 Spalding Drive .
Also, be sure to invite your neighbors to our open house AT the school, which is February 12th from 9 AM- 12 PM.

DON’T FORGET THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL before break IS THIS FRIDAY 12/19,

Updates from Dunwoody Springs PTA
Happy New Year! Welcome back! We have lots of great things planned for the second half of the 2013-2014 school year and here’s a snapshot of what’s to come in the next few weeks:
Don’t forget! Wednesday, January 22nd is the Parent Resource Center Open House and Volunteer Day. Stop by anytime between 8:00 am and 1:30 pm to find out what incredible resources are available for checkout to help your child(ren) with their core academics!!
And while you’re there – give us a little bit of your time and volunteer in a class or wherever needed. No amount of your time is too big or too small. A helping hand is all you need!

Ongoing – be sure to fill out your Read to Lead calendars. Fill out the paper calendar and return to your homeroom teacher or simply go online and enter your minutes there. www.dsesread2lead.org
Friday, January 31 – Career Day
If you are interested in being a speaker in your child’s classroom, please sign up with his/her teacher as soon as possible. We are hoping that each classroom will have between two and four speakers. We would like you to schedule a time between 8:00 am – 10:00 am. The students look forward to hearing about your duties and responsibilities. Please stop by the lobby that morning to enjoy donuts and coffee as a “thank you” for participating. Thank you in advance.
Thursday, Feb. 13 – Dunwoody Springs Valentine Luncheon
Come spend lunchtime with your little loved ones!! Be sure to bring a little extra cash – Valentine photos and Candy Grams will be available for a small fee. Proceeds go directly to Dunwoody Springs. Be sure to check what time your little Cupid will be in the cafeteria. The lunch schedule will be sent home in backpacks.
Thursday, Feb. 13 – DSES Family Valentine Dance
The fun continues into the night – It’s the 2nd annual DSES Family Valentine Dance from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
Ticket prices are $5 for 1 ticket, $8 for two and $10 for 3 or more! Come dance the night away with your Dolphin Family! We guarantee lots of music, dancing and fun! Pizza, drinks and baked goods will be for sale. ALL STUDENTS must be accompanied by an adult. NO drop offs!
Friday, Feb. 14- Monday, Feb 17 – No School for the President’s Day Holiday

Back to School Bash and Movie Event

Dunwoody Springs Elementary School’s Back to School Bash
Bound to be a blast you don’t want to miss! Join your Dunwoody Springs Elementary School community for a family event. Attend with your children to get together with old friends and meet new ones. (No drop offs; all students must be accompanied by an adult.)

Where does the time go?
I turn around and discover that almost two weeks have passed since my last post. So much has changed in these two weeks. I went from shorts and tee-shirts to jeans and a sweater. My yard went from a green mat to a patchwork of colored leaves. And school is in full swing. Be sure to schedule your parent-teacher conference so that you know how your child is doing in class as well as what you can do to make sure your child succeeds in school.
Please remember these important dates this week:
Wednesday, October 10 – School photos. Bring your best clothes and a smile to school on Wednesday!
Thursday, October 11 – Spirit Night at Chuck E. Cheese, 925 North Point Drive, Alpharetta, GA – Let’s turn Fun into FUNds! From 5-8 p.m. this Thursday, join your classmates in the fun and come out to the Northpoint Chuck E. Cheese for the first DSES Spirit Night of the year! Come play and eat with Chuck E. and your school friends! What a great way to have fun and support our school! Reminder stickers will go home with students on 10/11. KEEP THESE STICKERS!! You will be able to redeem the stickers for 10 free tokens. Chuck E. Cheese will donate 15% of all sales back to DSES from all sales generated at this event! A parent and/or guardian must be present – no drop offs! Show your spirit and wear your uniform or spirit wear!
Friday, October 12 – REFLECTIONS Art Contest Deadline – OCT 12 is the deadline for all Reflections artwork! There is still time to encourage your student to participate! This year’s theme is “The Magic of a Moment” … one entry per student, per category. Categories are visual arts, literature, photography, Dance, Film and Music Composition. All grades are eligible. If you still need an entry form, please let your child’s teacher know right away or stop at the front desk to pick up an entry packet. Final Artwork is due Friday, Oct. 12. All entrants will be honored with a medal and special school reception.
Next week is equally as busy:
Monday, October 15 – No School. Teacher Work Day.
Saturday, October 20 – Tanner Photography – All photo session slots are filled! We will not be accepting any further order forms – but we are in need of volunteers to help the day of! GREAT AMERICAN FUNDRAISER
Hopefully you’ve had the chance to look through the new Great American catalogue that came home with your child on Sept. 7th!! Don’t forget you have until Sept. 28th to reach out and sell to your neighbors, relatives, co-workers etc. Your child will earn prizes for selling! DSES will earn money for selling!! Now let’s get selling!!! Orders due back to school on Friday, Sept. 28th.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – Vision and Hearing Screening
Looking for an easy way to volunteer at Dunwoody Springs? The annual Hearing and Vision Screening is being held on Thursday, Oct. 4th. We need parents to help run the tests and keep the testing moving along throughout the day. Volunteers needed from 7:15 – 1:30 – any timeframe is appreciated. REFLECTIONS ART CONTEST
It’s that time of year again – time to get your child’s creative juices flowing and enter the 2012-2013 Reflections Contest – This year’s theme is “The Magic of a Moment” … one entry per student, per category. Categories are visual arts, literature, photography, Dance, Film and Music Composition. All grades are eligible. Please let your child’s teacher know if they would like to enter and an entry packet will be sent home. Final Artwork is due Friday, Oct. 12. TANNER PHOTOGRAPHY
Not your ordinary school picture! On Saturday, October 20, you will have the opportunity to have a professional family portrait taken, while earning money for your school for only $20!!! Photo can include all siblings or the entire family! Fee includes one 11×14 portrait (value $65). Additional sizes, canvas wall portraits and/or holiday cards will be available to purchase. If interested, please fill out attached order form, along with $20 to the attention of DSES PTA. What a great way to capture a moment and get a head start on holiday cards!!!
